When I taught college-level math & statistics, my favorite times were showing students how to visualize, illustrate, and describe the formulas and equations we manipulated.

Upon retiring, I began making art-jewelry pieces and teaching those to others, using the “metal clay” process. The name is misleading: the actions are like working with clay yet what comes out of the kiln is metal! I love the freedom of making whatever shape I want, not what some formula says it must be. My favorite moments teaching that have been helping students explore relationships between technical design and aesthetic appeal.

Recently adding pottery with clay and glaze materials from all around our big world, I take particular delight in using them for tiny (mostly jewelry size) creations that can easily be shared.
