Host: Scott Cornish
Scott Cornish creates handmade functional ceramic work that is fired in a wood-fueled kiln of his design. He fires in atmospheric wood kilns for the dynamic and varied surfaces that are produced on his works. The porcelain clay body used records the path of the flame and ash on its surface with brilliant warm tones. Vibrant reds and oranges are present where the flame roars by the work carrying alkaline materials that bond to the surface of the unglazed clay, documenting the path of the flame. Cornish utilizes the kiln firing to lay the final surface on the work and define the pots in this last step in completion.
He serves on the faculty in the Art Department at the Community College of Allegheny County and has exhibited his work in the US and abroad. His work has been published in multiple books and periodicals. He is professionally active in his field, producing and exhibiting artwork while helping others in their pursuit of creativity.
