An Invitation to Participate

The Pittsburgh Potters Tour is rebranding as more of a sales event and less of a behind-the-scenes look into our studios. Behind-the-scenes programming will be addressed in other Clay Pittsburgh programs to be announced later.

The tour features 10 to 20 studio stops across Pittsburgh. Each stop is a host studio. Host studios may invite guest artists to show and sell alongside them, or Clay Pittsburgh can suggest guests from our artist community. Visitors move from studio to studio over the weekend, meeting potters and purchasing work directly from the people who made it.

Studio Setup

To create the strongest experience for buyers — and the best sales results for you — participating studios agree to the following.

  • Display prices clearly on all work. Buyers should never have to ask.
  • Accept credit and debit cards. Square, Venmo, PayPal, and similar readers are all acceptable.
  • Have work available at a range of price points, including accessible pieces under $50.
  • Keep your studio open the full event hours: 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, both days.
  • Share tour materials through your own channels — email list, Instagram, and any platforms you use. Your outreach to your own collectors is one of the most powerful tools we have.
  • Display the promotional card at your studio and anywhere you sell or show work in the weeks before the tour.
  • Submit studio photos and a brief description by the deadline listed above for use in the brochure and on the website.

Participation Fees

There is no application fee. Entry fees apply once a studio is accepted.

RoleFee
Host Studio$100
Guest Artist (sharing a host studio)$50

Entry fees help cover printing, design, and promotion costs. Payment details will be provided with acceptance communications.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted through a Google Form. A link will be posted here and on the Clay Pittsburgh website at claypittsburgh.org when the application period opens.

You will be asked to provide the following.

  • Studio name, address, and contact information
  • A brief description of your work (2–3 sentences)
  • A price range for your work (for example, $25–$400)
  • Whether you are applying as a Host Studio or Guest Artist, and if Guest, the name of your host if you have one
  • 8 photos, each at least 1MB: two photos of you in your studio, three shots of individual pieces, and three shots of small groupings of work

Acceptance is at the discretion of Clay Pittsburgh. We aim to notify all applicants within two weeks of the application deadline.

Promotion

Clay Pittsburgh will run a coordinated promotional campaign in the weeks leading up to the tour, including printed materials distributed across Pittsburgh, a dedicated tour page on claypittsburgh.org, and an Instagram campaign featuring participating studios.

All accepted artists will receive an Artist Promotion Kit with ready-to-use social content, caption suggestions, and messaging — so promoting the tour through your own channels is as easy as possible.

Questions
